Cracking the Code...

As technology continues to become a part of everyday life, teachers need to take advantage!
An idea I learned about this week was the use of a QR code.

What is a QR code?💁
  • A QR code is a two-dimensional barcode that is readable by smartphones.

Where have I seen QR codes?💁
  • Product boxes
  • Newspapers
  • Sale Papers
  • Brochures
  • Museums
  • Stores
How is this useful for teachers?💁

A QR code on a teacher's phone📱 can:
  • Scan in who did homework✏
  • Choose who to call on🙋
  • Present a PowerPoint without a desktop PC💻
  • Digitalize and file documents🗃
  • Create PDF's from whiteboard notes📋
  • Conduct an assessment📝
  • Project student work as a document camera🎥

How do you use a QR code?💁
You will need a device. (This ranges from a smartphone to a desktop with a WebCam) Then you will need to download an app that will scan a QR code.

Click on the link for your device for a free QR code scanner:

How do you create a QR code?  💁
Just use one of these sites!
✔✔QR stuff ~This one has more options and includes using video

✔✔Go QR~This one is simple and easy to use!

👏Great! You've cracked the code! ✊👍
Scan any of the codes throughout this blog for more information on how to use QR codes in the classroom or for yourself!

One question I have concerning QR codes is:

"How can I explain QR codes in a simple and easy way so that any age group can understand?"

  2. I think you did a great job explaining how to use QR codes and what they were. Sadly, the QR code reader I got on my phone couldn't read your yellow QR codes - I don't know why, but I did love your use of color.
To explain QR codes to younger students, I would pull from examples of things they are familiar with like grocery store barcodes on cereal boxes and such. Your list of where you have seen QR codes would be good, because some kids may have seen them in those places as well. Demonstrating how to use them is good too. I think you have a great start and grasp on it already. Good job!

    1. Thank you for letting me know, I will fix them A.S.A.P. I thought of something around using boxes or picture, but I just didn't really like the method. This works though, thank you!

  3. So on my iPhone, my free app "QR Reader" can read the first two QR codes (the blue & yellow and they both give me the same video), but I can't read either of the bottom of this blog entry. Nice work on this entry about QR codes and thinking how they could be useful in your classroom in the future.

    1. Explaining QR's easy - Take a "picture" of this box and it will take you straight to what I need you to see/do next! :) Little kids think it's a magic trick.
